LaBare dancer arrested in death
Maurice Michael McKnight, 42, was arrested Tuesday in Bexar County in connection with the death of a patron at Austin’s LaBare strip club last month, Austin police said Wednesday.
McKnight was booked and released Tuesday by the Bexar County sheriff’s office, Austin police said. Last week, police said he faced a $15,000 bail.
McKnight was charged last week with manslaughter. On June 12, Austin police investigators said, McKnight got into an argument with 37-year-old Kelvin Monroe at LaBare, a male strip club in the 6400 block of North Interstate 35. Soon after, officials said, McKnight, a dancer at the club, slapped Monroe in the face.
Monroe was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge, where he died June 18 from brain hemorrhaging, officials said. The Travis County medical examiner’s office conducted an autopsy and ruled the death a homicide.
If convicted, McKnight could face a sentence of two to 20 years in prison.
