Lawmaker stops driving cars
A Dallas-area lawmaker on the powerful House Transportation Committee says she has stopped driving a Mercedes-Benz and a Chevy SUV owned by a company that makes millions through state transportation contracts.
The Dallas Morning News reported last week that Rep. Linda Harper-Brown was concerned that her constituents saw a possible conflict of interest even though she says she did nothing wrong.
The 2010 Mercedes E550 and 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe were part of a compensation package given by Durable Enterprises Equipment Ltd. to the Irving Republican’s husband. The company is part of a group that does business with the state on issues Harper-Brown has worked on.
