10 mu­sic pi­o­neers to be memo­ri­al­ized

The Austin Mu­sic Me­mo­rial, which hon­ors in­di­vid­u­als who have made sub­stan­tial con­tri­bu­tions to the devel­op­ment of the Austin mu­sic com­mu­nity, will in­duct 10 lo­cal mu­sic pi­o­neers on July 11.

An­tone’s founder Clif­ford An­tone, rock ’n’ roll trail­blazer Ja­nis Jo­plin, le­gendary singer-song­writer Townes Van Zandt, Thread­g­ill’s name­sake Ken­neth Thread­g­ill and beloved blues gui­tarist Ste­vie Ray

Vaughan are among the more fa­mous Austin mu­sic per­son­al­i­ties to be rec­og­nized. Other in­ductees are jazz trum­peter Martin Banks, blues pi­anist Er­bie Bowser, ra­dio host Lil­i­ado ‘Lalo’ Cam­pos, multi-in­stru­men­tal­ist Luis

‘Louie’ Guer­rero and Vic­tory Grill founder Johnny Holmes.

The City of Austin Eco­nomic Growth and Rede­vel­op­ment Ser­vices Of­fice es­tab­lished the Austin Mu­sic Me­mo­rial in 2007. The in­duc­tion cer­e­mony will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Long Cen­ter for Per­form­ing Arts.
