10 music pioneers to be memorialized
The Austin Music Memorial, which honors individuals who have made substantial contributions to the development of the Austin music community, will induct 10 local music pioneers on July 11.
Antone’s founder Clifford Antone, rock ’n’ roll trailblazer Janis Joplin, legendary singer-songwriter Townes Van Zandt, Threadgill’s namesake Kenneth Threadgill and beloved blues guitarist Stevie Ray
Vaughan are among the more famous Austin music personalities to be recognized. Other inductees are jazz trumpeter Martin Banks, blues pianist Erbie Bowser, radio host Liliado ‘Lalo’ Campos, multi-instrumentalist Luis
‘Louie’ Guerrero and Victory Grill founder Johnny Holmes.
The City of Austin Economic Growth and Redevelopment Services Office established the Austin Music Memorial in 2007. The induction ceremony will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Long Center for Performing Arts.
