White’s business dealings

Austin American-Statesman - - OPINION -

We’ve been inundated with petty, stale criticism over the temporary residence of Gov. Rick Perry. It’s a travesty the media, including this paper, focus on the irrelevant while keeping us in the dark by avoiding important issues of ethics and character.

Where’s the full story on Bill White’s failed Frontera Resources oil scheme, his connections with the Wedge Group, the millions made from BJ Services while mayor and the alleged “disaster profiteering” deals to BTEC?

Contrary to Ben Sargent’s snide cartoon on June 27, the impediment to debate has been White’s refusal to fully disclose his tax returns. Given his myriad questionable dealings, it’s understandable why White might not want sunlight on his activities. Roger Falk

editor’s note: the american-statesman has had substantial coverage of democratic gubernatorial candidate bill White’s business dealings:

Frontera: May 16 PolitiFact texas ‘holes in Perry’s picture of White’s Caspian dealings’

Wedge group: June 21 article ‘White hits Perry on leadership, lifestyle’ and Feb. 3 article ‘White’s career incorporates law, business and government’

BJ Services: Feb. 23 PolitiFact texas article ‘Value of White’s oil investments not a “major stake” ’

in addition, four articles in June addressed the ‘profiteering’ issue and BTEC.
