Hartford agrees to give refunds for overcharges
Insurance refunds due for Hartford clients
Texas customers who bought homeowners insurance polices from two subsidiaries of Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. will receive refunds for overcharges, state officials announced Thursday.
About 43,000 policyholders will be affected, according to the Texas Department of Insurance.
Thomas Hambrick, a spokesman for the Hartford group, wouldn’t provide the amount of the refunds, but Deeia Beck, head of Texas’ Office of Public Insurance Counsel, said the refunds will total $3.8 million, including interest.
Refunds should arrive by the end of year, Beck said.
The agreements were finalized Wednesday with the companies, the Office of Public Insurance Counsel and the Department of Insurance.
