Pres­i­dent’s in­stal­la­tion oct. 22

Den­nis A. Ahlburg, who be­came pres­i­dent of Trin­ity in Jan­uary, will be for­mally in­au­gu­rated Oct. 22 at the small pri­vate uni­ver­sity that oc­cu­pies a hill­top in San An­to­nio.

The 2 p.m. cer­e­mony is open to the pub­lic and will fea­ture a pro­ces­sion of fac­ulty mem­bers, trustees and ad­min­is­tra­tors, as well as rep­re­sen­ta­tives of col­leges and uni­ver­si­ties around the nation.

A na­tive of Aus­tralia, Ahlburg is an econ­o­mist who has stud­ied the ef­fect of pop­u­la­tion on eco­nomic devel­op­ment and higher ed­u­ca­tion. The key­note ad­dress for his in­stal­la­tion will be de­liv­ered by Roger Ainsworth, a pro­fes­sor of en­gi­neer­ing sci­ence at the Uni­ver­sity of Ox­ford in Eng­land and mas­ter of its St. Cather­ine’s Col­lege. Trin­ity of­fi­cials said his se­lec­tion re­flects the im­por­tance the uni­ver­sity at­taches to giv­ing its stu­dents an in­ter­na­tional per­spec­tive.
