West­lake, Lake Travis among Lone Star Cup lead­ers

Two Cen­tral Texas high schools fin­ished sec­ond in the 2009-10 Lone Star Cup com­pe­ti­tion, ac­cord­ing to re­sults re­leased Thurs­day by the Uni­ver­sity In­ter­scholas­tic League.

West­lake fin­ished as the Class 5A run­ner-up be­hind The Wood­lands, while Lake Travis took sec­ond in Class 4A, plac­ing just be­hind Friendswood.

The other Lone Star Cup cham­pi­ons were Lu­cas Love­joy in 3A, Brock in 2A and Cayuga in Class A.

Schools earn Lone Star Cup points based on their teams’ re­sults in var­i­ous UIL-sanc- tioned ath­letic and aca­demic cham­pi­onships.

This past school year, The Wood­lands won state cham­pi­onships in boys cross coun­try, boys swim­ming and div­ing and girls soc­cer. The High­landers have won four Lone Star Cup ti­tles in the past five years.

Friendswood and Brock won their sec­ond con­sec­u­tive Lone Star Cup cham­pi­onships, while Lu­cas Love­joy and Cayuga earned their first ti­tles.

Other Cen­tral Texas schools to fin­ish in the top 10 of their clas­si­fi­ca­tions were: Bowie, Class 5A; Drip­ping Springs, Class 4A; Wim­ber­ley and La Grange, Class 3A; and Sal­ado, Class 2A. (tie) Gatesville, La Grange and Mon­a­hans, 44 Class 2A 1. Brock, 74; 2. Wall, 56; 3. (tie) Aubrey, Bush­land, New Waverly and Sal­ado, 52; 7. (tie) Poth and White Oak, 50; 9. (tie) Dainger­field and Ge­orge West, 42. Class A 1. Cayuga, 68; 2. Lind­say, 64; 3. To­lar, 54; 4. (tie) For­san and Love­lady, 46; 6. Al­bany, 44; 7. (tie) Cana­dian, Gru­ver, Martin’s Mill and Sey­mour, 40.
