200,000 state work­ers cut to min­i­mum wage

SACRA­MENTO — Roughly 200,000 state work­ers will re­ceive min­i­mum wage pay­checks in July un­der terms of an or­der is­sued Thurs­day by Gov. Arnold Sch­warzeneg­ger. July pay for most hourly state em­ploy­ees will be with­held to the min­i­mum al­lowed by fed­eral law —$7.25 an hour — and then re­stored once leg­is­la­tors agree on ways to close Cal­i­for­nia’s $19 bil­lion deficit. State Con­troller John Chi­ang, who cuts state pay­checks, re­fused to com­ply with the or­der, but a state ap­peals court ruled that he had to com­ply.
