Remembering Briscoe

Austin American-Statesman - - OPINION -

Gov. Dolph Briscoe, below, the last gentle man and gentleman governor, has passed away.

My father, Charles Purnell, worked for the governor and was always in awe of the depth of Dolph and Janey’s partnership and with the integrity with which they led their public and private lives. Both Briscoes were good friends to our family.

Texas has lost a real legend. Here’s to a life well-lived and a state well-served. Thank you, Gov. Briscoe, and thank you to your family for sharing you and Janey with the state. MiMi Purnell
