Sta­ble gaso­line prices fore­cast for In­de­pen­dence Day week­end

The econ­omy may be mak­ing peo­ple ner­vous, but driv­ers should have a happy Fourth of July at the pump. Gaso­line prices have changed lit­tle this week and, by some an­a­lyst es­ti­mates, might even fall a bit over the long hol­i­day week­end; even with more peo­ple ex­pected on the roads, am­ple sup­plies and ane­mic de­mand are likely to keep prices fairly sta­ble and be­low $3 a gal­lon this sum­mer.

The U.S. av­er­age for un­leaded gaso­line fell 4 cents to $2.75 a gal­lon Fri­day, ac­cord­ing to Wright Ex­press and Oil Price In­for­ma­tion Ser­vice. The av­er­age in Cen­tral Texas was $2.60 a gal­lon Fri­day, up 10 cents from a year ago but es­sen­tially un­changed from last week.
