Connect the dots

Austin American-Statesman - - OPINION -

As I read the June 28 article “Nuclear dump faces citation,” my thoughts turned to Gov. Rick Perry. His name is not mentioned in the article, so why did I think of him?

A few days before, the American-Statesman printed an article about the fund set up to pay for the governor’s travel expenses to such places as his recent trip to China (June 26, “Perry taps corporate fund to market Texas”). Among the leading donors to that fund was Contran Corp. Contran is controlled by the same man that controls Waste Control Specialists, Harold Simmons of Dallas.

Waste Control Specialists has consistently received kid glove treatment from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, whose commissioners all are appointees of Perry.

With Perry, the dots nearly always connect if we take the time to follow the money and influence. john watson
