Democratic convention

Re: June 28 Ken Herman column “Regular folks are notably missing at conventions.”

I wasn’t there, but they sent me a clip of Bill White’s acceptance speech with a report of the gathering. It was a heckuva speech. I liked that he didn’t have a TelePrompter.

Sounded like those attendees were 60 or older, and it surprises me that they voted to keep the two-step caucus. After the election two years ago, Democrats had a special meeting with those opposing it to come forth and state their reason for wanting to get rid of it. The late Jim Mattox was at that meeting, and he gave a wonderful speech and got a standing ovation. But apparently we wasted their time.

Lots of people are affected by having to vote twice — for some, an impossibility. Democrats will be there in November voting for White, so I’ll see you there.
