Three die in plane crash near airport
FAIRFIELD — A small plane crashed in the driveway of a commercial building and burst into flames, killing all three people aboard, as it attempted to land at New Jersey’s Essex County Airport, authorities said. The plane, a Cirrusbuilt SR22, best known for its emergency parachute system, crashed a half-mile northeast of the airport. The parachute can lower the entire aircraft and occupants to the ground in an emergency. The Essex County bomb squad, fearing an explosion would deploy the parachute, was dispatched to deactivate the system.
