Happy 234th birthday, America

Austin American-Statesman - - OPINION -

Believe in yourself. Our nation’s forefathers did that and, courageously, in 1776 declared our independence. This great experiment in freedom was the beginning of the greatest of all nations.

We united under God and with open arms welcomed all who wanted to be what their abilities and desires could bring them. Our forebears blended with the new nation and enjoyed freedom to worship, to agree, to disagree, to grow. They were Americans from all over the world.

We were not hyphenated Americans; we were one nation, one America. Let us reunite.
