Ge­or­gia’s Evans re­signs

Da­mon Evans of­fered an­other apol­ogy on the day his res­ig­na­tion as Ge­or­gia’s ath­letic di­rec­tor was an­nounced by the school’s pres­i­dent. The an­nounce- ment by Michael Adams came less than a week af­ter Evans was ar­rested on a DUI charge.

Evans, 40, the SEC’s first black ath­letic di­rec­tor, had cam­paigned around cam­pus against drunk driv­ing.

“I un­der­stand I have a long road to re­build­ing my rep­u­ta­tion and ca­reer,’’ he said.

Evans also apol­o­gized to his wife for be­ing out drink­ing with 28-year-old Court­ney Fuhrmann, who was charged with dis­or­derly con­duct.
