Rootin’, tootin’ soccer fans

Austin American-Statesman - - OPINION -

Re: June 29 article “Instrument of the buzz.” I really appreciate and agree with Joe Gross’ argument for vuvuzelas. Last spring, when I studied abroad in Cape Town, South Africa, I was able to attend a soccer game. Vuvuzelas abounded, and the noise gave a sense of place.

In a time when the world is becoming less localized and more globalized by the day, and perhaps less colorful and more bland, we should welcome the presence of an instrument at the World Cup that is innately local, colorful and South African. erin Jones
