DISTRICT GETS OPERATIONS CHIEF, SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
Lawrence W. Fryer Jr. has been named the district’s chief operations officer, completing Superintendent Meria Carstarphen’s senior cabinet.
Fryer has a bachelor’s degree from Prairie View A&M University and a master’s in national security strategy from the National Defense University. He also was a fellow in the Broad Superintendents Academy in 2006. The academy is a 10-month executive management training program designed to prepare senior executives from business to lead public school systems, according to its website.
Fryer is a former chief operating officer in the Prince George’s County Public Schools in Maryland and has served as a senior managing consultant for IBM. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the U.S. Marine Corps, including two years as a lieutenant colonel at Fort Bliss.
The district also announced that Paul Perez, former assistant principal of St. Elmo and Linder elementary schools, will be principal of Walnut Creek Elementary School. Perez has a bachelor’s from the University of Texas and a master’s in educational administration from the former Southwest Texas State University, now Texas State.
