Pro­test­ers vow hunger strike against U.N.

COLOMBO — Sri Lankan pro­test­ers threat­ened hunger strikes and na­tion­wide demon­stra­tions if the United Na­tions doesn’t halt its in­ves­ti­ga­tion into pos­si­ble govern­ment abuses com­mit­ted dur­ing the fi­nal bloody months of the civil war here. The world body re­jected the de­mand. The threats came a day af­ter hun­dreds of demon­stra­tors led by Hous­ing Min­is­ter Wi­mal Weer­awansa laid siege to the U.N. com­pound in Colombo, trap­ping work­ers in­side for hours.
