Southwest reports boost in passengers
Traffic on Southwest Airlines Co. rose 5 percent last month, as the Dallas-based carrier had more passengers and its planes were more full.
Southwest said paying passengers flew 7.07 billion miles in June, compared with 6.73 billion a year earlier. The airline’s capacity, or number of available seats, rose 1.9 percent to 8.63 billion available seat miles. Southwest’s load factor, or the percentage of seats filled, increased by 2.4 percentage points to 81.9 percent.
It’s a sign the U.S. airline industry is continuing to improve steadily. Southwest carries more passengers than any other U.S. carrier.
