Schol­ar­ships awarded

Austin’s Ju­lia Beck, Tay­lor Moreno and Sierra Sims are the first re­cip­i­ents of the Billy Clagett Schol­ar­ship.

Spon­sored by the Han­non Cup As­so­ci­a­tion, the schol­ar­ship is named for lo­cal am­a­teur leg­end Billy Clagett, a found­ing mem­ber of the Han­non Cup As­so­ci­a­tion who is best known for his six Fire­cracker Open vic­to­ries. The schol­ar­ship awards a $500 travel stipend to any lo­cal ju­nior who qual­i­fies for a USGA na­tional cham­pi­onship.

Beck will be a sopho­more at Lake Travis; Moreno will be a se­nior at West­lake; and Sims will be a sopho­more at West­lake. All three have qual­i­fied for the USGA Ju­nior Girls Cham­pi­onship, July 19-24 at the Coun­try Club of North Carolina in Pine­hurst, N.C.

The awards were pre­sented Sun­day evening at the end of play in the Fire­cracker Open at Lions Mu­nic­i­pal. Clagett was on hand to make the pre­sen­ta­tion along with
