Central Texas teams fall short
Central Texas 7-on-7 football teams came up short twice on Friday at the state passing tournament in College Station.
Playing in the Division II tournament for Class 3Aand-smaller schools, Cameron Yoe lost in the final of the championship bracket. The Yoemen fell 34-32 to a Brownwood team led by Texas Longhorns recruit Jaxon Shipley. Before losing to Brownwood, Cameron Yoe beat its previous four opponents by a combined score of 171-91.
Burnet lost in the championship game of the Division II consolation bracket, falling to Graham 36-29.
After struggling to a 1-2 record in pool play on Thursday, Burnet picked up steam on Friday. The Bulldogs scored more than 30 points in each of their first three games before beating Hardin 27-21 in a consolation bracket semifinal.
A year ago, Graham defeated Burnet 50-29 in the quarterfinals of the championship tournament.
