2 dead after gunfire at shopping center
Two men are dead after a shooting in North Austin early Sunday, according to police officials.
Austin police officer Dennis Farris said officers were dispatched to a shopping center in the 8600 block of North Lamar Boulevard about 3 a.m. after gunshots were fired.
Police found a Hispanic man dead at the scene, Farris said. Another Hispanic man was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge by paramedics and pronounced dead about 6:30 a.m., Farris said.
The strip center contains a taco trailer and several businesses, including a nail salon and an insurance office.
The details surrounding the shooting are unclear, but detectives are interviewing more than a dozen witnesses, Farris said.
The names and ages of the victims have not been released pending notification of family, he said. Any witnesses are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 472-8477.
These are the 16th and 17th homicides in Austin this year.
