Win­ner: Lux­em­bourg rider Andy Sch­leck won in 4 hours, 54 min­utes, 11 sec­onds, beat­ing Spa­niard Sa­muel Sanchez in a sprint to the line.

Who’s in yel­low: Two-time run­ner-up Cadel Evans of Aus­tralia took the yel­low jersey from French­man Syl­vain Chavanel, while Sch­leck jumped to sec­ond over­all, 20 sec­onds back. De­fend­ing cham­pion Al­berto Con­ta­dor is third at 1:01 be­hind.

Where’s Lance? Arm­strong had a ter­ri­ble time. He strug­gled with crashes and the steep climbs, fin­ish­ing 61st. Over­all, Arm­strong dropped to 39th place, more than 13 min­utes be­hind, which all but knocks him out of con­tention.
