Dike gives way, forcing evacuations
Some people whose homes were threatened by Rio Grande flooding had to be evacuated after a dike broke, police said Monday.
Police Chief Ricardo Trevino told KRGV-TV that the water Monday reached nearly two dozen homes. He said about 15 families evacuated after the dike failed overnight.
The Rio Grande rose after heavy rain associated with Hurricane Alex, which soaked northern Mexico and South Texas in late June and early this month, and other tropical weather.
