Second-tier cartoonist

Austin American-Statesman - - OPINION -

The July 5 cartoon of the Elena Kagan hearings is so typical of Michael Ramirez’s second-tier status as a political cartoonist. First, he labels everything, leaving nothing to the reader’s judgment, imagination or interpretation. Secondly, as with many right-wing columnist/entertainers, he feels compelled to hit the reader over the head to make sure his obviously ideological messages aren’t missed.

This is quite typical of the authoritarian psychological profile of many on the right. They either tell you what to do or wait to be told what to do, both quite happily. Subtlety and nuance are not part of their arsenals. The genius of a Mike Peters and a Mike Luckovich is they portray a unique perspective that is both amusing and informative without being obvious.

I suppose you feel compelled to offset your own talented Ben Sargent with cartoons from the right, but surely you can do better than Ramirez.
