officials’ pay increase oK’d
County commissioners on Tuesday approved a 2.5 percent pay increase for elected officials not on the judiciary pay scale as part of the 2011 budget year beginning Oct. 1. The budget will be adopted Sept. 28.
The move passed with a 3-0 vote. Commissioners Margaret Gómez and Karen Huber were absent. No citizens spoke during a public hearing on the issue Tuesday.
The Commissioners Court wants to include a 2.5 .percent pay increase for all employees in the 2011 preliminary budget at a cost of about $6.6 million, according to a county memo. The increase will help offset what employees pay in increased health insurance costs, the memo said. With changes to the health insurance plan approved by commissioners last month, there was an 8 percent, or $4.4 million, increase in health insurance costs for county employees, according to budget director Leroy Nellis.
