Candy box bomb­ing in­jures woman

Fed­eral agents are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the ex­plo­sion of a bomb dis­guised as a candy box that in­jured a Hous­ton woman.

The 56-year-old woman is re­cov­er­ing at home af­ter hav­ing surgery for an in­jury to her left hand that she suf­fered in the bomb­ing.

The ex­plo­sion oc­curred at the woman’s north­west Hous­ton home Fri­day night when she opened a candy box that she had re­ceived sev­eral weeks be­fore. The U.S. Bureau of Al­co­hol, To­bacco, Firearms and Ex­plo­sives said the ex­plod­ing pack­age sprayed the woman with nails and tacks.

ATF As­sis­tant Spe­cial Agent Robert Elder said the woman was the tar­get of the bomb, but no mo­tive has been de­ter­mined.
