Austin emer­gency per­son­nel were given the wrong lo­ca­tion when re­spond­ing to the drown­ing call for 32-year-old Je­sus Her­rera Tor­res dur­ing the week­end.

Of­fi­cials said Tor­res was swim­ming in the wa­ter near U.S. 183 East and the Guer­rero Colorado River Park, un­der the Mon­topo­lis Bridge, when he went un­der Sun­day morn­ing. His friend, who speaks Span- Lis­ten to the 911 call with this story on­line. ish, called 911 at 11:10 a.m. but in­cor­rectly iden­ti­fied the lo­ca­tion as be­ing along In­ter­state 35.

The 911 op­er­a­tor who an­swered — also a Span­ish­s­peaker — trans­lated the call for Austin-Travis County Emer­gency Med­i­cal Ser­vices work­ers and stayed on the line for the du­ra­tion of the call.
