What’s the symbol of Texas’ economy? CNBC apparently thinks it’s Katz’s, the Austin deli that boasts that it “never kloses.”

The network broadcast from the West Sixth Street restaurant Wednesday in connection with a CNBC study that ranked Texas as the top state for business.

“Naturally, everybody likes to take credit for it,” restaurant owner Marc Katz said. “We all like to relish in the fact that we’re the best economy in the country.”

Gov. Rick Perry has weighed in on the study, saying in a news release: “This designation reinforces the fact that the Lone Star State is the best state in the nation to live, work and raise a family thanks to our low taxes, reasonable and predictable regulations and skilled work force.”

Perry appeared on CNBC on Tuesday but didn’t visit Katz’s on Wednesday.

Democratic gubernatorial challenger Bill White was interviewed a couple of days ago at the Driskill Hotel, and clips from that session ran on CNBC on Wednesday, campaign spokeswoman Katy Bacon said.
