At­ten­tion, art-lov­ing Aus­tinites. The City of Austin’s Art in Pub­lic Places has thrown down the gaunt­let for you to cre­ate your own pub­lic art vir­tual tour. Now through July 31, the pro­gram is ac­cept­ing vir­tual tour sub­mis­sions us­ing the free Gowalla smart-phone lo­ca­tion ap­pli­ca­tion. Your mis­sion is to ven­ture to the wilds of Austin, choose your fa­vorite five to 10 pub­lic art pieces, cre­ate a tour (called a “trip”), and then sub­mit it through the Gowalla web­site for the chance to have your tour se­lected as the of­fi­cial route for the 2010 an­nual Pub­lic Art Crawl on Oct. 2.
