Man accused of soliciting girl
An Austin man pleaded guilty Thursday in Midland to attempting to entice a child to engage in sexual activity, according to the U.S. attorney’s office for the Western District of Texas.
Authorities said Mario Angel Alvarado, 31, admitted that in April he began communicating with an 11-year-old Monahans girl he encountered on a social networking website. When the girl’s guardian discovered the communication was sexual in nature, she contacted authorities. An undercover federal agent assumed the girl’s identity and continued communication. After Alvarado proposed that he and the child engage in sexual intercourse, he was arrested in Austin, a news release said.
After his arrest, authorities determined that Alvarado was a registered sex offender, the release said. He faces between 10 years and life in prison. man Tom Harvey said.
His body was found about noon Thursday in about 12 feet of water in the park area, Harvey said.
