Man ac­cused of so­lic­it­ing girl

An Austin man pleaded guilty Thurs­day in Mid­land to at­tempt­ing to en­tice a child to en­gage in sex­ual ac­tiv­ity, ac­cord­ing to the U.S. at­tor­ney’s of­fice for the Western District of Texas.

Au­thor­i­ties said Mario An­gel Al­varado, 31, ad­mit­ted that in April he be­gan com­mu­ni­cat­ing with an 11-year-old Mon­a­hans girl he en­coun­tered on a so­cial net­work­ing web­site. When the girl’s guardian dis­cov­ered the com­mu­ni­ca­tion was sex­ual in na­ture, she con­tacted au­thor­i­ties. An un­der­cover fed­eral agent as­sumed the girl’s iden­tity and con­tin­ued com­mu­ni­ca­tion. Af­ter Al­varado pro­posed that he and the child en­gage in sex­ual in­ter­course, he was ar­rested in Austin, a news re­lease said.

Af­ter his ar­rest, au­thor­i­ties de­ter­mined that Al­varado was a reg­is­tered sex of­fender, the re­lease said. He faces be­tween 10 years and life in prison. man Tom Har­vey said.

His body was found about noon Thurs­day in about 12 feet of wa­ter in the park area, Har­vey said.
