fab freshman to super sophomore

Ranked by Rivals.com as the second-best recruit in Virginia, running back Ryan Williams quickly burst upon the scene for the Hokies in 2009. Replacing the injured Darren Evans, Williams raced to 1,655 yards, 21 touchdowns and 10 100-yard rushing games.

As Williams enters his sophomore season and Evans returns from his knee injury, the Hokies haven’t seen this much razzle-dazzle in their backfield since Michael Vick electrified fans from 1999 to 2000.

Showing power and durability at the end of the season, Williams punctuated his first season with a 117-yard, two-TD performance in Virginia Tech’s bowl victory over Tennessee.
