Chávez opens Simon Bo­li­var’s cof­fin

CARA­CAS — Pres­i­dent Hugo Chávez has opened the cof­fin of his idol Simon Bo­li­var as Venezuela in­ves­ti­gates the pres­i­dent’s sus­pi­cions of foul play in the South Amer­i­can in­de­pen­dence hero’s death nearly two cen­turies ago. Chávez an­nounced the ex­huma­tion of Bo­li­var’s re­mains on Twit­ter, say­ing he wept to see the “glo­ri­ous skele­ton.” While his­to­ri­ans have gen­er­ally con­cluded that Bo­li­var died of tu­ber­cu­lo­sis in 1830, Chávez the­o­rizes that Bo­li­var was mur­dered.
