No charges filed in teen’s death

Austin American-Statesman - - LOCALBRIEFING -

Authorities have decided not to file charges in the May 1 death of a 17-yearold Hays High School student, even though an investigation showed alcohol use may have played a role.

Alyssa Marie Bargsley of Kyle died after falling off a golf cart driven by another teenager in the Hill Country town of Kingsland.

At the time, officers said the driver was swerving back and forth, and Bargsley fell when the cart hit a bump in the road. She hit her head on pavement.

On Friday, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission announced the findings of its investigation with the Llano County sheriff’s office and the Department of Public Safety.

According to the commission, Bargsley and two minors, 17 and 15, drank alcoholic beverages before the accident at a home in Kingsland without the knowledge of any adults.

A policy enacted in 2009 says that the commission will not charge minors with the possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages when someone has called 911 because of a medical emergency.
