Wil­lie’s cream puffs

Oh, what a bunch of cream puffs at the Wil­lie Nel­son Fourth of July Pic­nic this year.

No food af­ter 8 p.m.? Lines for the shut­tle? Bath­room fa­cil­i­ties de­volved? Peo­ple ac­tu­ally had to walk from the Hill Coun­try Gal­le­ria to the Back­yard?

Well, they should have been at the very first Wil­lie Nel­son Fourth of July Pic­nic back in 1973 at Drip­ping Springs. We had to walk miles in the blaz­ing Texas heat and carry plas­tic foam cool­ers (you know the kind that al­ways broke a han­dle), only to sit all day in the mid­dle of a goat ranch with no shade.

Need­less to say, there were no ven­dors, no health care and (OMG !) no side­walks. Ah­hhh, those were the days.

Hey, did I tell you about the time I had to walk four miles in the snow to … ?
