Sobriety checkpoints

Austin American-Statesman - - OPINION -

Re: July 10 editorial “Solution must include treatment.”

Yes, many states have drunken driving checkpoints. As a result, my friends in California quit having a couple glasses of wine in a restaurant after work to socialize. That’s enough to put alcohol on your breath and potentially get you yanked to the station before you’re cleared — not exactly worth the hassle.

If Texas wants a California economy, checkpoints are a good place to start. Kent santoRiello
