Austin American-Statesman - - LOCALBRIEFING -

Zach Mossman, 17, son of Tim Mossman of Austin and Jenny Sawyer of Round Rock, has earned the Eagle Scout ranking, the highest level of recognition in the Boy Scouts.

He recruited and managed more than 30 volunteers landscaping a 5,000square-foot area in Berry Springs Park and Preserve in Williamson County. Dozens of low-maintenance plants — including cactus, yucca and agave, along with pecan trees, wildflower seeds, and a few thousand pounds of landscape rocks and crushed granite — were installed to create a Southwest-themed foliage divider at the entrance of the long-term camping area.

He is a member of Venture Crew 465, chartered by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Austin, and will be a senior in the fall at Round Rock High School.
