FIT FOLKS

Austin American-Statesman - - LIFE & ARTS -

Exercise has always been an important part of my life, and now I am reaping the rewards. I took up yoga about 6 years ago and attend a class twice weekly. I use the weight and elliptical machines at the YMCA three times a week. I took up clogging about 14 years ago and dance weekly with the Clickety Cloggers. In the summer I swim regularly, preferably at Deep Eddy Pool or Barton Springs. I also walk two miles daily with my dog. All of this keeps me in shape so that I can climb the South Rim at Big Bend National Park, where I go every February with a group of women. It is a wonderful feeling to wake up every morning feeling fit and able to do whatever I want to do without aches and pains. It is definitely worthwhile for a person to make a commitment to her health early on in life! Growing older does not necessarily mean giving up physical activity.

We’re looking for Central Texans who keep fit with interesting activities. Tell us — in 100 words or fewer — about yours. If you have a photograph, include that as well. Send your name, age and contact information to Pam LeBlanc, Austin American-Statesman, 305 S. Congress Ave., Austin TX 78704 or e-mail it to pleblanc@statesman.com.
