President Barack Obama plans to head-line an Aug. 9 fundraiser in Austin for the Democratic National Committee, according to Democratic sources. He is also planning to headline a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee event the same day in Houston.

According to an e-mail circulating among local Democrats, the Austin event is likely to be a high-dollar affair tentatively scheduled for the Four Seasons.

Obama visited Central Texas for the Fort Hood memorial in November. He visited Austin in February 2008 for a primary debate at the University of Texas. He drew thousands a year earlier at a rally on Auditorium Shores.

Gov. Rick Perry likely will use Obama’s appearance in August to link the president to former Houston Mayor Bill White, who is running against Perry this year. Perry has repeatedly sought to tie Obama to White, even though White has criticized the administration on a number of fronts.

White spokeswoman Katy Bacon says White “has no plans to attend” either of the Texas fundraisers with Obama.
