Austin American-Statesman - - LOCAL BRIEFING - By Isadora Vail ivail@states; 445-3763

Austin police said late Monday that they were investigating a homicide in Southeast Austin.

Officers arrived about 7 p.m. in the 2600 block of Hoeke Lane, in a neighborhood near Riverside Drive and Texas 71, Sgt. Jaime Jobes said. The call came in as an “unknown nature,” and officers arrived to find one man unconscious, he said.

The man was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge where he later died, Jobes said.

Officers had made no arrests in the killing Monday night, Jobes said.

He would not release the victim’s name or age and would not say how the victim was killed.

Jobes said that another person who had been in the area was taken to a hospital in a private car and that the two incidents could be connected.

Any witnesses are asked to call the homicide tip line at 477-3588.

The incident marks Austin’s 18th homicide of 2010, Jobes said. At this time last year, Austin had 10 homicides.
