Death penalty? Kinda

Austin American-Statesman - - SPORTS -

Those predicting the NCAA would tread lightly on a major power like USC had to reconsider when the Trojans had the boom lowered on them after a four-year investigation that centered mostly on tailback Reggie Bush.

The NCAA banned USC from bowl games for two years. The program will lose 30 scholarships over three years and must vacate victories in games in which Bush played while receiving extra benefits. The Trojans are appealing the penalties.

Bush, now with the New Orleans Saints, called the penalties “the closest thing to death without dying.”
