A different kind of fighting spirit
Carlos Barredo showed Tuesday he’s got more than one kind of fight in him.
The Spaniard led a long, solo breakaway that was swallowed up by a small group of chasers including Armstrong in the last 1,000 meters of the 16th stage. It was enough to earn him the day’s Combativeness Prize.
During the sixth stage, Barredo got into a rough-andtumble brawl with Rui Costa of Portugal after the finish line, with Barredo attempting to hit the Caisse d’Epargne rider over the head with a bicycle wheel.
The two riders apologized the next day.
Andy Schleck, wearing the best young rider’s white jersey, accepts a bottle of water from Alberto Contador of Spain, wearing the overall leader’s yellow jersey, right.
