2 Amer­i­cans in cases tied to ter­ror­ism

A Vir­ginia man who had made threat­en­ing state­ments about the TV show “South Park” was ar­rested and charged with sup­port­ing the So­ma­lia-based ter­ror group al-Shabab af­ter al­legedly try­ing to board a flight to Africa with his in­fant son. Mus­lim con­vert Zachary A. Chesser, 20, had been in con­tact with An­war al-Awlaki, a U.S.-born rad­i­cal cleric now hid­ing in Ye­men, pros­e­cu­tors said. In an un­re­lated case, Is­lam con­vert Paul G. Rock­wood Jr., 35, of Alaska ad­mit­ted that he had been rad­i­cal­ized by read­ing Awlaki’s tracts on the Web and had pre­pared a list of 15 peo­ple he be­lieved should be killed for “des­e­crat­ing Is­lam.”
