Reminiscing about Briscoe

Austin American-Statesman - - OPINION -

Being hired by the Dolph Briscoe administration was a stroke of luck for me. It was 1974, and I had just retired form the U.S. Air Force after 20 years. After running the photo lab at the Air Force Academy, I was more than up to the challenge given to me for one job that came about every once in a while.

Whenever Ben Sargent had a cartoon that involved Briscoe, the governor had Ben send the original to me, and I would copy and print out a black and white 11-by-14-inch matte print of it. Seems the governor had a great sense of humor along with being sensitive to others’ needs. At least from my perspective that was true.
