Accessing the Blanton

Austin American-Statesman - - OPINION -

For the last several years, I have watched more of my older friends being deprived of the magnificent offerings at the Blanton Museum. Parking at the UT-Brazos Garage is a full 1½ city blocks from the museum’s front door — much too far for many older people to walk.

When I have brought this problem to the museum staff’s attention, I’ve been ignored. I do not know why the museum cannot provide golf cart shuttles, much like the dozens owned by the athletic department.

In the meantime, older Austinites and those with disabilities are being denied access to very fine and informative exhibits and programs. What a shame.
