Multiple factors behind death
Austin police have turned over a May homicide case to the Travis County district attorney’s office after a medical examiner’s report said two other factors contributed in the death.
Lawrence Brown, 32, died at a hospital May 12 after he sustained blunt force trauma during a fight with another man at 13th and Chicon streets about 3 a.m., police said. But the medical examiner’s report said Brown also died from an existing heart condition and narcotic toxicity.
Austin police Detective Douglas Rice said a suspect was brought in and interviewed, but no charges had been filed because of the other two factors cited in Brown’s death. Police did not identify the man involved in the case because he has not been charged.
Rice said the case is now in the hands of prosecutors, who will decide whether to take the case before a grand jury.
He said police still want to interview about 20 people who witnessed the fight.
Any witnesses are asked to call the homicide tip line at 477-3588.
