Gray water ordinance approved
The San Marcos City Council approved a proposed gray water ordinance on first reading late Tuesday. Council members voted 6-1 for the ordinance, with Chris Jones casting the dissenting vote.
The ordinance would allow “gray water” — wastewater from showers, bathtubs, sinks and washing machines — to be used for landscaping and certain other purposes.
Jones said that he supports the use of gray water, but found the city’s ordinance “redundant,” because all of its provisions are already covered by state laws that regulate gray water.
“We should be spending our time encouraging people how to use (gray water) rather than regulating it,” Jones said.
