Landowner charged in death
A well-known El Paso landowner has been arrested in a fatal hit-and-run case.
Police said William “Billy” Abraham was arrested Tuesday night after hitting a pedestrian with his car and fleeing the scene. The 54-year-old was arrested on charges of intoxication manslaughter and being involved in an accident causing personal injury or death.
Police said Abraham’s car struck Jay Grady, 47, as Grady walked across a busy road about 9:40 p.m. Tuesday. A U.S. Border Patrol agent followed Abraham, the owner of several downtown El Paso buildings, for more than five miles before he finally pulled over.
Abraham is free on $60,000 bail.
