Out of the gate
Oregon’s season is almost bound to get off to a better start than it did last year. In Kelly’s first game as head coach, the Ducks journeyed to Boise State, which was pumped up to play a big-name opponent on its blue field. Oregon lost the game 19-8 and also lost tailback LeGarrette Blount for most of the season after he was suspended for sucker-punching a Boise State player after the game. This year’s projected star running back, LaMichael James, is virtually certain not to do anything like that against New Mexico. James won’t even see the field, as he’ll be sitting out a one-game suspension after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of harassment.
Running back LaMichael James ran for 1,546 yards last season but will sit out the Ducks’ opener.
