Three major tourneys set for next week
Three major tournaments are on tap for next week:
• The Texas State Junior Championships will be held Tuesday through Thursday at Horseshoe Bay. The boys open division will be held at Ram Rock. The girls open division and the boys and girls 14 and under divisions will be played at Apple Rock.
The open divisions are 54-hole tournaments. The 14-and-under divisions are 36 holes.
Austin’s Elena Warren won the girls title last year when the tournament was held at Jimmy Clay. Fifteen-year-old Austinite Stratton
Nolen, winner of this year’s Firecracker Open, won the 14-and-under division in last year’s championship. He has moved up to the open division this year.
• The Women’s Texas Golf Association State Amateur Championship will be held Monday-Friday at the University of Texas Golf Club.
A field of 96 will begin with an 18-hole qualifier Monday. The low 32 advance to the championship division for match play competition the rest of the week.
The field includes defending champion Stacy Dennis of Huntsville, 2004 winner
Carolyn Creekmore and 2007 USGA Senior Women’s champion Anna Schultz.
• The Austin City Junior Championships will be held Wednesday and Thursday. First-round play will be Wednesday at Jimmy Clay, and the final round Thursday at Morris Williams.
